Camping with the Bulli – but no big satellite dish on the roof? You can still watch TV: because the Telefunken Philie TV has a built-in rechargeable battery that you can watch for up to four hours: the World Cup, the Eurovision Song Contest, a romantic film for two.
TV reception under the starry sky
A triple tuner provides TV reception: cable reception at home, satellite for home or on the road (if you’re camping in a high-end camper anyway). But even without that you should have reception everywhere via DVB-T2 and a simple antenna. The first six months are even free.

- Reception technology: Triple tuner (DVB-T2/-C/-S2)
- Encryption: CI+
- TV provider: 6 months HD+ free
- Smart TV: Apps for Netflix, Prime Video, Youtube and others
Big screen, low resolution
Telefunken had to make a decision: the bigger and better the image, the shorter the battery life. And vice versa. In my opinion, the manufacturer has found a good compromise with the Philie TV.
With a screen diagonal of 32 inches or 80 centimeters, the image is nice and large and even offers a dynamic contrast range and a sophisticated sound via Dolby Audio – but the resolution is rather meager at 1,366 x 768 pixels (WXGA HD). By 2022, it should already be Full HD (1,920 x 1,080).

However, this compromise saves energy and thus allows a long runtime. Still, the photo is good enough to recognize the ball when watching football or to follow the show at the Eurovision Song Contest.

mobility
The Telefunken Philie TV is large and has an extra built-in battery. Still, with a weight of 4.3 kilograms, it remains quite mobile. You can carry it with one hand and there is even a carrying case that is resistant to dust and water.

The device does not have a base, so it cannot break off. Its shape alone ensures a good and stable stand. The Philie TV is noticeably wider at the bottom and therefore has a large footprint.
The battery should last up to four hours. That’s enough for two feature films or for a World Cup final with extra time, penalty shootouts and the presentation of the trophy.

I would be a little careful with “until”. If the reception is poor, the device may need to work a little harder. This can certainly shorten the run time. The same applies if you set the brightness extremely high when looking at the sun during the day.

At home, on the balcony, in the allotment garden
A television with a rechargeable battery can also be useful in your own four walls. In many living rooms, a TV no longer has a permanent place. The screen only pulls out when something special is on.
The table moved quickly to the right place. But where is a cable that goes to the outlet? So it is better to charge the Philie TV where it normally is – in the storage room or adjacent room – and do it without cable in the living room.

A mobile television also likes to wander around the room: next to the sofa in the living room, in front of the bed in the bedroom, alternately in all children’s rooms and – why not? – sometimes right in front of the bath.
On a mild summer evening, the Telefunken Philie TV can also be placed on the balcony. You don’t have to pull on a long power cable, especially if the balcony doesn’t have its own power outlet. Likewise in the allotment garden.
Practical as an extra monitor
You don’t even have to use the Philie TV as a television. Because it’s also an ultra-mobile monitor. In a video call, it can be the second monitor so that you can see your conversation partner on one screen, but still have access to your data on the other.
The Philie TV should also be interesting for photography. Because whether it is on the camera or on the smartphone: often there is only a small screen. A large screen (with battery!) can help to quickly assess whether, for example, the image distribution has worked.

Also for all Instagram and TikTok creators: if you are alone and taking photos or movies yourself, a large monitor behind the camera can be useful. This way you can check at any time whether you are properly photographed. Just look past the lens.

What are the alternatives?
The problem is not new. If you want to watch TV in a place where there is no electricity, you either have to run a very long cable or connect the TV to a power bank/power station. That’s how it was until now. However, the Telefunken Philie TV has already installed the battery and is therefore very practical.

There is another alternative: mobile projectors with rechargeable batteries. You can then project the image onto the side wall of your motorhome. It is best to hang a canvas in front of it beforehand. We have already tested the Xgimi Halo+. It weighs only 1.6 kg. But it only gets a maximum run time of two hours. Note: under ideal conditions.
Conclusion: worth the price

Of the Telefunken Philie TV is available in four colors (blue, green, white, orange) and currently costs 449 euros. There are cheaper 32-inch TVs, but not with a battery and the mobility that comes with it.
By the way: the LG StanbyMe is a comparable device. Also wireless, but with a stand and on wheels – so only suitable for home. At 27 inches, it is somewhat smaller, but with a touchscreen.
