The latest information was that sonos will move its small subwoofer, the Sonos Sub Mini. The company’s headphones seem a long way off anyway, and cheap dot competitors won’t be there. But coming soon is a new flagship speaker. In terms of development, this runs under the name Optimo 2.

The American Medium The edge has seen first images of the Optimo 2 showing a significant evolution in design compared to existing Sonos products such as the Sonos One, Five, Arc, Beam and Roam. The new device is encased in a double-angled case and is billed as the “best sounding speakers positionedSonos has ever produced — including support for Dolby Atmos. It features a range of speakers, including several that fire in different directions under the cabinet between the front speaker grille and the rear panel, according to the report. The 3D replica above is bronze, but the Optimo 2 will likely come in the traditional Sonos colors of white and black.

The Verge reports that Optimo 2 is the lead product of a trio of work-in-progress devices that will also include Optimo 1 and Optimo 1 SL. “SL” means that the latter has no built-in microphones. The three products are linked to an upcoming major update to the Sonos software platform that will unlock new features. In theory, the Optimo 2 could serve as a successor to the Sonos Five, which hasn’t had a significant makeover in years. This would put the Optimo 1 and 1 SL in the role of smaller smart speakers or satellite speakers in Sonos surround sound systems.
