The Federal Statistical Office has announced that the transport performance of local trains has more than doubled in the second quarter of 2022. This is apparent from a preliminary special evaluation.
Data from carriers using automated passenger counting systems, whose data had already been quality checked at the time of analysis, was evaluated. 46% more travelers traveled by trains, including S-Bahn, than in Q1 2022 and 74% more than in Q2 2021.
In addition to the relaxation of the corona measures, the 9-euro ticket that has been valid since June should also have contributed to the increases. Trams and light rail vehicles (including elevated, underground and suspended railways) carried 21% more passengers than in the previous quarter and 48% more than in the same quarter last year. According to the Federal Statistical Office, growth was lower than for local rail transport.
